This fundamental design practice course has been designed to cover all the key elements of fashion design; silhouette, detail, trimming, colour, fabric, pattern. It provides an introduction to the principles of fashion design and concentrates on the development of ideas from well explored research.
FDM2084 Digital Fashion Illustration 3 6 Major Bachelor 1-4 Korean Yes
Digital Fashion Illustration trains students that can work on multiple areas, in close contact with fashion designers, product offices, and marketing offices for the processing of images and illustrations to be used in samples and catalogs, but also for the development of advertising campaigns in fashion magazines and social media. Students will explore a variety of illustration and presentation styles represented in static and time base formats. Advanced Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop skills are taught for both concept illustrations and technical drawings. In addition, familiar digital apps will be instructed to supplement the creation process. Along with illustration, motion art is instructed and composited in digital video formats. This course enables students to practice fashion figure drawing, fabric rendering, garment behaviors, and eventually to create their own creative digital fashion portfolio.

This course investigates the interlocking forces shaping fashion: the designer system, celebrities, technology, identity, politics, the arts and media. Through lectures and film viewings, readings, discussions, team projects, and individual research, students explore fashion as a crucial aspect of culture with an emphasis on how the contemporary fashion system evolved from its roots in Parisian couture to become a global phenomenon. The course will study how fashion can help us understand the ways in which tradition and innovation, creativity and technology, localism and globalization, identity and diversity, power and body, are elaborated and interpreted in contemporary society, and in relation to a globalized world.

This course delves into the dynamic intersection of fashion and visual communication. Tailored to foster both creativity and technical proficiency, the program empowers students to articulate fashion concepts through compelling visual narratives incorporated into garments. Spanning from sketching to digital rendering, the course navigates diverse pathways in the realm of fashion graphics, and then through hands-on experiences, students are immersed in crafting fashion graphics and translating them into tangible, wearable expressions. The curriculum explores a spectrum of surface treatments, including but not limited to embroidery, heat transfer, silk screen printing, digital printing, and applique, providing a comprehensive understanding of the tools and techniques in fashion design.

In this subject, various artwork techniques of fabric manipulation such as gathering, shirring, pleating, tucking, smocking, quilting, and stuffing will be implemented through sewing work, and fashion accessories will be developed by applying creative technique development. In addition, the goal is to develop clothing pieces through a design ideation process through pattern transformation work.

A study of woven and knitting construction and loom characteristics. Students can develop the ability to design various patterns of fabric and knit through weaving and knitting practice of basic and applied patterns using hand looms.

Upon completing of this course, students will comprehend the core elements of planning, purchasing, negotiating, pricing, controlling, and selling processes relevant to retail merchandising in apparel and other consumer goods. Utilizing a blend of lectures, computer lab sessions, and participatory class discussions, students will not only employ fundamental mathematical concepts to resolve common merchandising issues but also integrate their understanding of merchandising basics to devise coherent merchandising strategies.
