This course examines media effects from both psychological and sociological perspectives. The course will focus on the complex interrelationships between consumption of various types of media content and the motives, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors of the audiences. This is not to say that we will ignore the normative, organizational, or extra-media factors that shape media content. Still, a majority of our efforts will concern research at the intersection of media, psychology, and sociology conducted in our society, mainly Korea and America.

This class, communication theories, deals with epistemological theories about who(group/organization) says what(message) to whom(receiver/audience) in which channel(medial) with what effects and provides understanding on characteristics of those theoretical construction. This seminar gives a chance to criticize with strongness and weakness of american empirical-positivistic mass communication theories. This class also includes advace sociological, psychological, and political communication theories.
